MINUTES OF SPOSA MEETING ON 29Th APRIL, 2012 HELD AT GBC CLUB HOUSE
The president, Mr. Dzakpasu Sesi Donatus called the meeting to order at exactly 4:00 pm with the opening prayer by Dr. Anthony Korbla Kpetsey. After which the President gave AGENDA for the day’s meeting and stated that two people sought permission to absent from the meeting (Mr. Dogbe Adolf and Mr. Kporha Johnson). The secretary read the highlights of the previous minutes as suggested at the previous meeting. A member came up with the suggestion that the highlights should be fleshed a little so that members who were not at the meeting and those who are not able to go to the net or the website can also be part of the discussion.
The president invited the financial secretary to brief the house on the financial standings of the Association since the new leadership took over office; it was promised that the full details will be published at the website duly. One observation was that dues payment has been falling since from the previous months to date. Members were encouraged to pay their dues promptly for the smooth running of the Association so as to realize the goals and dreams set up for the year and beyond.
The next item discussed was the issue of the School’s indebtedness to the insurance firm which supplied some computers to the school in the year 2008. The president assured the house that after meeting with the company for settlement negotiations, it was agreed that the total amount of Ȼ 35,000.00 be paid in three installments (Ȼ12,000.00: Ȼ11,500.00: & Ȼ11,500.00). With the first, second and the third installments due at the end of May, August and December 2012 respectively, any default would mean that the company reverts to the original debt of Ȼ35,000.00 plus a penalty of Ȼ13,000.00. The president also discussed the plans taken towards the payment of the said amount by the school; each student is to be levied an amount of Ȼ5.00 for the next three terms to off-set the said debt.
The next item was the southern sector school games scheduled for the 25th of May. It was announced that each participating school would pay an amount of Ȼ300.00 towards the day’s activities to be held at the Nicholson stadium at Burma Camp. Members were encouraged to attend the event so as to establish contacts for themselves and for that matter mother SPACO.
The supposed lecture on job search and the job market could not come due to as the resource person had to attend to other calls; instead there was a talk on personal insurance and risk management by Conqueror Livingstone Ocloo. Some of the policies mentioned include Child Education, Fire Burglary, Motor Vehicle insurance (comprehensive, third party, fire and theft), Personal Accident and Investment among others. He advised that we should read between the lines and get some of the policies mentioned since it would help us anytime we encounter any of the problems solved by the said policies.
The vice president was the next to present the project team to the house; he announced the names of the team members. The team is tasked to mobilize part of the fund required to undertake the proposed project. Also each year group was given the platform to tell the house what they have done so far with regards to the levy of the Ȼ 1500.00 (one thousand five hundred cedis) and the outstanding pledges during the end of year get-together. When the year groups finished their presentation, members were once again called upon to fasten the year group formation as quickly as possible so as to see the dreams of SPOSA get to its implementation.
Next was a discussion on arrangement made towards the funeral of the former headmaster (Mathew K. Attigbor). This was done by the welfare chairman in person of Dr. Kpetsey Anthony Korbla. The president promised to get feedback for some of the questions during the next meeting. Those who were coming to the meeting for the first time and those who went on missions outside the country for some time were introduced in all 53 conquerors comprising 5 ladies and 48 men were in attendance.
